Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance was formed on October 1, 2004 from the merger of Tokio Marine & Fire, Japans leading non-life insurer and Nichodo Fire & Marine, the sixth largest. These insurance companies are both long established in the Japanese market and now have a 25% share of that market.
